Want to dress up like a Kpop idol? Or maybe take a picture with your Kdrama stars? The Gangnam Tourist Information Centre has a lot of activities and equipments Hallyu related. The Hallyu, also known as Korean wave or Korean fever, literally means flow of Korea. It is a neologism which refers to the increase in the popularity of South Korean culture. Because of Psy’s Gangnam Style, being Youtube’s most viewed video, tourism in Seoul has surged to a whole new level. Ensuring the demands of these new visitors are met, Seoul has unveiled a new tourist information centre at Gangnam. It is equipped with high technology and interactive features for the avid fan of Korean pop culture. There are displays of Kpop memorabilia as well.
The two storey building is in Apgujeong-ro, Gangnam-gu. In the first level, visitors are welcomed by the staff information desk with a vast selection of free booklets and leaflets for tourist on the right. The left side has the medical tourism section. Visitors can also make phone calls overseas for free in level 1. Currency exchange is also available until 4pm
The centre aims the visitors to experience Hallyu. Visitors can dress up as Kpop idols with free costumes and accessories as well as take pictures together with their favourite virtual Kpop idol. There are also standees of Kpop and Kdrama artists as well as sets that visitors can take pictures with. One can take a picture with EXO in a concert stage or have a picture with the cast of Running Man. The centre has displays of Kpop clothes and items. Souvenirs are for sale for avid fans. Tripods are allowed inside and is great for taking awesome pictures. The second level has all the Hallyu related features. I went there around 5pm and there were very few visitors. It opens from 10am to 7pm.
